Name: Zayn Ibrahim

(they/he) is a rising graduate student in the Environmental Science MS program at DePaul University. He has worked on and is most interested in research topics about environmental & community education/outreach and social/environmental studies on urban agriculture, particularly in Chicago. Their Undergraduate Senior research thesis is a case study on the impacts of contamination on urban farms/gardens in south side communities of Chicago. Outside of research/class, they can be found working on their photography skills, drawing or getting lost in a sci-fi novel/movie.

Major: Environmental Studies
Interests: Fran has deep interests in hydroponics, aquatic ecology, urban agriculture, and equitable food systems. Inspired by her experiences growing up on the South Side of Chicago, she is especially passionate about how these systems connect to community health, environmental justice, and sustainability. Outside the academia, Fran is a passionate traveler and diver. Her work is driven by the question: how can we grow better not just for each other but for our planet?
